A High-level Delegation of the OIC and its Humanitarian and Development Institutions Visits Burkina Faso

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and its humanitarian and development institutions, namely the Islamic Solidarity Fund (ISF), the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), and the Islamic Committee of the International Crescent (ICIC), dispatched a high-level delegation to Burkina Faso for a working visit during the period from 13 to 17 August 2025 according to an official statement issued in Jeddah,Thursday.

Headed by,the statement said, Ambassador Tarig Ali Bakheet, Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian, Social and Cultural Affairs of the OIC General Secretariat, and comprising Dr Mohammed bin Suleiman Aba Al-Khail, Executive Director of ISF, Dr Mohamed H. Elasbali, Executive Director of ICIC, Mr Salam Kafando, IsDB’s Representative in Burkina Faso, and other senior Officers of the OIC General Secretariat and the concerned institutions.

The visit,it added, aims to strengthen bilateral cooperation between Burkina Faso and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and to express the solidarity and support of the Organization and its related institutions to the government and people of Burkina Faso, as the country faces humanitarian challenges due to the security situation in some areas.

On the first day of the visit, the delegation was received by H.E. Mr Karamoko Jean Marie Traoré, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation and Burkinabé Abroad, to whom the head of delegation delivered a written message from H.E. Mr Hissein Brahim Taha, Secretary-General of the OIC, in the presence of H.E. Mrs B. Stella Eldine Kabre Kabore, Delegate Minister in charge of Regional Cooperation of Burkina Faso.

Discussions centered on the humanitarian and security situations in Burkina Faso, the efforts made by the Burkinabé authorities to address the crisis, and the best ways and means for the OIC and its humanitarian and development Institutions to support those efforts.

Additionally, the meeting reviewed bilateral cooperation, highlighting some key achievements and outlining future actions to be implemented jointly.

The visit will also feature other important meetings with the highest Authorities in Burkina Faso, a field visit to take stock of the situation of displaced persons, and the signing of important agreements for the implementation of future humanitarian projects.
