About Disruption at UDS Council Meeting: Prof Nkegbe Sets the Records Straight

Story: Mohammed A. Abu

The Dean of Graduate Studies,Prof Paul Nkegbe at the University of Development Studies (UDS), Tamale, Northern Region, has urged the public to disregard the false claims in a widely circulated mischievous publication relating to his person and treat its full content with the contempt it deserves.

Prof Nkegbe has taken serious exception to attempts being made by others to employ deliberate misinformation and disinformation so as to falsely make him the central figure around the recent reported incident of the disruption of the University’s Council meeting when indeed, he isn’t at all.

In a rejoinder and disclaimer issued in Tamale, Tuesday, Prof Nkegbe distanced himself from the widely circulated media report that alleged that, he was a likely candidate in the ongoing process for the appointment for the UDS and which also had suggested that certain disruptions at the Council meeting were linked to claims about his ethnic origin.

Prof Nkegbe rubbished the media claim that, “one Prof Nkegbe seems a likely candidate but the armed group in question claims he is not a native suggesting that his ethnicity has become a stumbling block to his appointment as Vice Chancellor and which further impugns, that the said armed group disrupted the meeting because he is not a native.

“This is entirely false, baseless and a fabrication” he emphasized adding, “it is a reckless distortion of facts, calculated either through gross irresponsibility or deliberate mischief”

Prof Nkegbe demanded with immediate effect that, the originators of the said publications and any person or platform that have shared the false narrative must retract the story in full and delete all related content including the flier baring his image. They must also issue a public apology with the same level of prominence and circulation as the original publication, clearly acknowledging the falsehood and absolving him of any involvement in the matter.

Failure to comply with his demands he warned, will leave him with no option but to resort to legal action to protect my name, reputation and personal security adding he will not hesitate to seek redress through all lawful means available.

“Let it be clearly understood that I disassociate myself entirely from the said report and events, he reiterated adding, “I urge the public to disregard the false claims and treat the publication with the contempt it deserves”
